reviews: GRAFFITI 365 x J.SON “TERROR 161” EDLIN

Graffiti 365 book review by Joe Russo

Last month this blockbuster book dropped onto the scene from hands of 12oz Prophet‘s own J.Son/Terror 161. Jay personalized me a copy and sent it over for review. This book is an A-Z comprehensive study of both graffiti, street and urban/contemporary artists alike. It’s filled chock full of rare and never before seen photos from both graffiti historians and street photographers. The foward is written by Andrew “Zephyr” Witten and includes many guest writers sharing their vast knowledge. I personally know many of the artists in the book and still learned something new about them as well as exposure to new artists from near, far and abroad.

This book is hands down one of the best street art and graffiti books to come out this year. Old school graffiti writer J.SON/TERROR 161 has produced the definitive tabletop reference/history book…an A-Z comprehensive study of both graffiti, street and urban/contemporary artists alike. It’s filled chock full of rare and never before seen photos from both graffiti historians and street photographers.

Amazon writes…”Graffiti 365 delivers the first real insider’s view into the contemporary graffiti and street-art scenes, as well as their antecedents. A fun, wide-ranging survey of the international graffiti movement, this book uses more than 600 rare, previously unpublished, or legendary images to introduce and describe important artists–from Blade to Banksy–and styles–from bubble to wild. Along the way, Graffiti 365 covers different eras, cities, legendary walls and crews, police and public responses to graffiti, and more.

The author of Graffiti 365, J.SON, has been an artist and historian of the graffiti movement for decades–he started writing graffiti in 1973 and retired in 1984. Unparalleled in its breadth and depth of coverage, Graffiti 365 is a wide-angle snapshot of an entire movement.”
