I’ve been a fan of these guys for many years and they have always been on my radar to check out for a few reasons. Obviously one being the music and the other being a friend of mine from college is in the band. Every time they came to NYC, I was booked on another gig. It wasn’t until last Friday night it all fell into place. I think the last time I saw my buddy Hags, the bass player, was 12 years ago at a Jayhawks show. Everyone in the band was great to hang and talk with. They put on such a great performance in the small, intimate room that was formerly a chapel back in the day. The band has a new album out entitled “Fifth” which is solid.
John Stirratt and Pat Sansone, both of the band Wilco, worked the stage well together…splitting the singing duties while Sansone sometimes played keys. The rhythm section is as solid as it gets with bassist James “Hags” Haggerty and drummer Greg “G-Wiz” Wieczorek. Rounding out the band on pedal steel is Lakland Basses’ own John Pirruccello.
What a great night of music. Thanks for the ride home guys!
