Irving Plaza, NYC May 22, 2012 –This evening was an interesting one. I purposely double booked my self as 2 major bands were in town. Jack White was playing at Roseland in West Midtown and Slash was playing downtown in the East Village. Both were doing live broadcasts of some sort and were schedule to go live at different times. I knew if I was to pull this off, everyone needed to stick to their set times and I would literally be cutting it close. More about the Jack White show soon. Needless to say I got to the Slash show with just 5 mins to spare and to a packed house.
Whenever Slash and Myles come to town…they never disappoint. They totally bring their A-game from the get-go…as does the rest of the band; the Conspirators. The band stopped by Irving Plaza…or the Fillmore East…or whatever it’s called these days in support of their awesome new album entitled “Apocalyptic Love”. Throughout the night, the band covered a lot of ground…from 4 GNR classic’s to Slash’s Snake Pit, a few Velvet Revolver songs sprinkled in the mix and a bunch of new tunes.
High energy, explosive riffage and a solid rhythm section is what you get on stage with these guys. Miles can sing the heck out of a tune in his signature style. Even on the GNR tracks, he doesn’t try to be Axl and remains in his own lane. Slash is well Slash…what else can you say about the guy besides him being a Guitar-God. His riffs and solos are precise and concise. No extra filler with this guy. The rest of his band rounds out nicely and everyone gets their shine.
