Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA. – Last week, I was able to attend and work my first Outside Lands Music Festival in beautiful Golden Gate Park San Francisco. Great music, food and vendors all weekend long.
Check out my review in photos…
Probably THE biggest surprise of the weekend for me. Got to their stage 2 mins before they came out on a recommendation from a friend…THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!
Band Of Horses
Ben has a tremendous voice and great command of his audience. This is the third or fourth time seeing them…ALWAYS good!
The festival was spread out quite a bit, making it hard to navigate the dense crowd to get to the music stages all the way on the other side of the festival. I think I only ventured to that side a few times. The crowd near the main stage was thick. For some strange reason, the media tent was stage left [right side if facing the stage] while the photo pit entrance was stage right…which means we had to try to cut through the entire crowded span/audience to enter/exit. BRILLIANT!
While I’m not a big fan of their music…and at times the lead singer hides or hugs the mic too much, I found myself enjoying shooting them more then last time.
Bob Weir came out for The National’s encore and we were allowed back in the pit to shoot it.
This photo ran in an article here on RollingStone.com the next day.
I keep saying I will never shoot another DJ unless I’m specifically getting paid to do so. And again I found this to be a complete waste of my time.
So I think I took more pics of the crowd then him…couldn’t see him anyway.
Sir Paul McCartney
A few shots from the crowd…
This festival was much anticipated by me as I was supposed to shoot it last year. Golden gate Park is a large and beautiful park in the heart of San Francisco. Since the festival was in the west end of the park, it’s right near the beach/ocean. This means the weather changed dramatically throughout the day/night. Only shot a few bands opening day.
Stay tuned for Day 2 coverage coming soon.
