Madison Square Garden, NYC 11.27.12 – Last night, Neil Young and Crazy Horse galloped into the world’s most famous arena with guitars blazing. The “Alchemy” tour is currently in support of their latest album together entitled “Psychedelic Pill”…their first assemblage of new music together in 10 years.
I can’t remember the last time I saw Neil Young…maybe the early 90’s. He’s always been one of my favorite artists. With that being said, I was stoked at the opportunity to shoot him last night. I knew it was gonna be a soundboard shoot. My last 2 at the Garden came out really nice. To say I was utterly disappointed with last night’s shoot would be an understatement. We were told we can only shoot the first 10 mins…so basically his first song and maybe a smidge of the second and then escorted out. For the first 3+ mins or so of “Love and Only Love”, Neil and 2 other musicians were huddled together in front of this huge inflatable microphone that was center stage and had long flowing ribbons blowing around them. They essentially hid behind it until Neil began to sing…at which point he was gyrating around in front of his mic that was stage left…then back to hiding behind the huge mic…and the lighting sucked too.
