This was my third time to this beautiful outdoor venue/amphitheater. The venue has been around since the early 1900’s. The design of the theater is based directly on the ancient Greek theater of Epidaurus. Simply amazing. Great sound. Beautiful surroundings.
The stage at the venue is about 8′ tall. The show started while it was still daylight so the lights were a mixture of daylight and decent overhead lighting. This was the smallest photo pit I have ever seen and shot from. The pit for some reason was only about a foot wide. Not sure why this was as there was plenty of room on the other side of it to be pulled back and still not be intrusive to the front row. I shot the first song from the pit and retreated back to the soundboard.
This was my second time shooting Grace Potter. I tried to shoot her back in fall of 2012. It was at the Beacon Theater in NYC [which is always a side of the house shoot because the seats go right up to the front of the stage]. Limited view to shoot. Aside from that, on this night she decided to go on 15 mins early. Parking is a bitch over there. Needless to say I got in the venue at the end of the second song, shot the third song and left. Maybe the third time is the charm…
